A Time to Sleep

Hello World! seems like such a bold place to start I feel more like I am tiptoeing into the unknown!

This week has been a week of firsts for me and it’s only Thursday! First full day away from my 13 month old daughter, her first full day of daycare, my first day back in the office after a combined 14 months of maternity leave and annual leave and my first steps into the world of websites and blogging and putting my thoughts out there. Maybe not big first for most but definitely a big one for me!

I had better introduce myself! I’m Hayley, when I’m not running my inner monologue I’m a sleep challenged mum of 2 with a supportive super dooper software developer husband, I work part-time, while also helping lead a mainly music group with my church in my spare time! I bake when I can, craft when I can and cook experimentally when I think I will get away with it! I have two sisters and a brother and these days our family is all spread out over Nepal and the UK!

Over the years I have done various craft projects,  collecting skills, memories and clutter with an ongoing internal dialogue, thinking I should totally post about this if I had anywhere to post it to….

So after filling my Facebook with pictures of my bits and bobs, and using it to save links for things I am desperate to try, I have finally done it! Please bear with me as I get photos up and really make this space special!

How this actually came to pass….

Towards the end of June 2017 my lovely elder sister married her long time beau and everyone pitched in to make it happen. I mean,  even my nearly 4 year old son “helped” with wedding dress shopping! I think it was 8 weeks from proposal to wedding or less I’m sure I will be corrected!

I  was down south initially to see my parents off on the next step of their own adventure, returning to Nepal. Which I was combining with visiting my brother and sister and their girlfriend and fiance, for what became my sister’s wedding dress shopping trip; I mentioned that I was thinking of starting a blog.

At the time I was thinking primarily a baking one, as I love trying out new recipes, with fun excerpts from home. I got lots of jokes and encouragement all at the same time. My sister and I joked that we could do it together and I could do the indulgent forget about what you are eating and enjoy recipes and she could do the healthy twist side of things.

Fast forward 3 months later and I come across various articles about blogging during my night time nursing sessions. The pros and cons, and the most common stumbling blocks.

I was surprised to discover that the main stumbling block is basically the setup. I know that in this day and age it is easy but at the same time it’s daunting. If you are anything like me and automatically think that you can’t do it or the fact that there are so many options that it’s hard to choose! While blogspot and WordPress have simplified it, it is still so daunting! I also realised that I was lucky.  I have a husband that can walk me through the stuff that puts people off. On hand tech support! (I’m sure he’ll get his own back for that comment later!)

The next stumbling block, at least for me was what to call it. I admit when my first idea was already gone I was stumped. I felt that it really had to speak to me and hopefully to my readers and give me a direction as I tend to get distracted and go off at a tangent, anyway I digress!

So I put it to my sisters and brother on our group chat. They had loads of great ideas, some just funny but the decider for me was that one of the ones my sister suggested was also her devotional for the day. Ecclesiasties chapter 3 verse 1: There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: [Eccles. 3:1 NIVUK http://bible.com/113/ecc.3.1.NIVUK]. I am always trying to find time for everything! And I want to share a little of everything I have done!

Right now it is a time for sleep and to misquote my husband “just post it”.

Blessings Hayley
